time to bloom **

You guys spring has finally arrived, and I couldn't be more excited to roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty in the garden! It's time to plant those seeds and prepare for a season full of blooms, fresh produce, and the joy of watching everything come to life. If you're here for the journey I am gong to share with you some tips on what i've learned thus far on how to get your garden started and ensure a successful spring planting season.

Soil Preparation: Setting the Foundation

A successful garden starts with healthy soil. Taking the time to prepare your soil properly will pay off all season long. Here's what you need to do:

  • Tilling/Loosening: Before planting, loosen the soil to allow for good root penetration and water drainage. Use a garden fork or tiller to break up compacted areas and aerate the soil.

  • Amending: Enhance your soil by mixing in compost, organic fertilizer, or other amendments to improve fertility and texture. Your plants will thank you for the nutrient boost!

  • Weed Removal: Clear out any weeds and debris that might compete with your new plants for water and nutrients. A fresh, clean bed will give your seedlings the best start.

  • Watering: Once your soil is prepped, give it a thorough watering. Moist (but not waterlogged) soil helps seeds settle in and provides a welcoming environment for root growth.

Planting: Sowing the Seeds of Spring

With your soil ready, it's time to start planting! Whether you're working with seeds or young plants, follow these steps to ensure they thrive:

Seeds:

  • Direct Sowing: Some seeds, like carrots and lettuce, can go directly into the prepared soil. Follow the packet instructions for spacing and depth.

  • Seed Starting: Other plants, such as peppers and tomatoes, benefit from a head start indoors. Use seed trays or small pots to grow these early, and transplant them once they are sturdy and the outdoor temperatures are warm enough.

Plants:

  • Digging Holes: For transplants, dig holes deep and wide enough to accommodate the root ball without crowding.

  • Planting Depth: Ensure the plant is positioned at the right depth—generally, the top of the root ball should be level with the soil surface.

  • Backfilling: Fill in the hole with your amended soil, pressing gently to remove air pockets and provide firm support.

  • Watering: After planting, give your new additions a generous drink of water to help them settle and begin to establish roots.

This season, my garden will be home to a delicious lineup of fresh goodies: tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach, peppers, broccoli, onions, asparagus, grapes, berries, and carrots. I can't wait to watch them grow and share the journey with you!

I'll be checking in with monthly updates on how things are sprouting, and you can also catch weekly tips and stories on our podcast tintime. So, grab your gloves and let's grow together—spring is here, and it's time to bloom!

Happy Gardening!

love you, mean it.

xx
